What is AdBlue / DEF ?
AdBlue is a liquid solution primarily composed of urea and deionized water. It is used in vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which is designed to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions produced by diesel engines.
In the SCR process, AdBlue is injected into the exhaust system where it reacts with the NOx emissions, converting them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. This chemical reaction helps vehicles comply with stringent emissions regulations by significantly reducing the amount of nitrogen oxides released into the atmosphere.
AdBlue is stored in a dedicated tank in the vehicle and is consumed gradually as the engine operates. Refilling the AdBlue tank is a routine maintenance task for diesel vehicles equipped with SCR systems, ensuring continued emission control effectiveness and compliance with environmental standards.
